First, I printed out the cartoon and taped it to the pumpkin. |
Next I took a push-pin and started to poke holes along the lines of the image. |
This got tiring really soon so I later insterted a sewing needle into the eraser end of a pencil and used that.. |
The moisture from the pumpking made the paper fall apart but it got the job done. |
I then carved out the lines with a pen-knife and shaved down the inside of pumpkin so the light could shine through it. |
Of course I had to make a custom sign for anyone who couldn't quite make out who the picture was supposed to be. |
This isn't just a profile. If you look closely, you can see my unconventional dissection of the pumpkin which made it much easier to clean out the guts than if I had only carvved out a lid on the top. |
I also made sure to cut it in such a way that it wouldn't fall apart once it was set on the table. |
This cut also made it much easier to insert and light the candle. |
The lack of any large openings in the image (only George's beady little eyes go through the flesh of the pumpkin) made it necessary to create an opening on top of the George-O-Lantern. |
I also made sure to carve some vents on the bottom for proper air flow. | Day Photos |
